Grey's Anatomy/ER.....

  1. i was watching an old episode of er the other day, then grey's anatomy the other night and wondered if nurses ever watch those shows and just want to scream out something, like a diagnosis if they figure it out first, or if something is so fake or unbelievable. but then again, these shows would probably be boring to you guys since you live the real thing day to day. are all of the situations they propose in these shows actually things that could happen in real life?

    I know that on the show "ER" producers have to condense the time it takes to do some procedures because, well, it's television. You can't wait fifteen minutes for ER staff to complete a lengthy medical procedure when the show is one hour from start to finish.

    My favorite is House, because it's always got the crazy diagnosis you learned about in school but never actually saw. I got the thrombocytic purpura with the pregant 13yo once... I was thrilled. I will yell at them when they do things they shouldn't (shock asystole, etc).

    Grey's anatomy bothers me. I don't like it too much because of a few comments made about nurses on the show.

    yes, i do actually yell out diagnosis and watch for things that are done wrong. for example: (on er) the md was putting in a central line and the nurs that was assisting him was grabbing things off the sterile field, handing objects to him....without being sterile herself. all that does bother me, but then again it is always a tv show. in fact, i have made a few of my friends mad when i let them in on the fact about how in real life we don't shock a flatliner.

    I just watched an episode of Smallville. They did shock asystole and guess what? It didnt work - he died. (they also gave NO medications, just shocked):angryfire The patients girlfriend was crying over his body and the nurses grabbed her and told her that she had to leave. Once they pushed her out, they pulled the cover over pts face and all walked out!! So much for allowing family to grieve. We wouldnt want them to touch dead pts, it might be catchy.!? I cant help but get aggravated at that kind of junk.

    I like Grey's Anatomy but my absolute fave show is definitely House!!! And yes I am constantly yelling out diagnoses or pointing out things they're doing wrong. My husband just loves that. And hey, do you guys ever notice that on House, it's the interns/residents who hang the IVFs?!! I mean come on! How many docs have you seen who hang up IVFs versus writing the order & telling the nurses (us) to hang them? I think that's so funny that the docs hang them on the show! So not true!

    Gray's anatomy irritates me. Nip/Tuck is fun. "Tell me what you don't like about yourself" hehe nice catch phrase.

    i guess since i'm not a nurse yet i really dont' know what to look for....right or wrong diagnosises, comments about nurses. i think the main reason grey's anatomy is my favorite is the relationship and romance parts of the show.....house? never seen it, didn't know it was a hospital show, but i will check it out now. oh yea, and nip tuck is a fun show too, although i don't get to hear alot of medical terms on it.

    I'm not a nurse yet (just a student) but I love House! Also, on CSI when they do autopsy's I can often recognize terms.

    let me see:

    Grey's Anatomy: I like the sci/medical parts but i get bored during the romance scenes, which theri seem to be more and more of (i am a multi channel watcher and liek to watch mutliple shows at once so its allright though)

    ER: i was too young when it first came out to care..so im just not into it really...though i ahve watched a few episodes

    House: only seen one episode...dont mind..but its just not my thing..too dramatic

    Scrubs: one of teh bets shows over...cus its a comedy i love it!
