So in 3.5 hours I will go into work and for the first time, I will be "alone". Im freaking out just a bit. Ive had 14 weeks of a very comprehensive orientation with great preceptors, I guess I'm just nervous. My 3 month evaluation went very well, Ive had help from everyone there, my coworkers seem to have a nose for when I need help. Heres to hoping everyones alive when I leave @ 11pm. :D

I'm so excited FOR you. I start my ER internship January 16th. It's 6 months! Did your program have classroom time too? Good luck. Keep us updated!

Take a deep breath! Remember that you will never be working alone. Ask for help when needed or if there is a skill that you are not yet comfortable with. Good luck!

Welcome to reality street. You said you had a good orientation, helpful co-workers, good report after three months. Now GET OUT THERE AND FIGHT ! and win one, just one for the Gipper! Sorry I get carried away sometimes. You just have a case of the nerves. We all get them. I work agency and after 40 years in this business I still get them when I have to go to a new place. You'll do fine.

You'll do fine! I really do not think that feeling ever goes away. It's not as strong anymore, but it's always there. Just remember to always ask for help if you need it and if ever you're unsure of a procedure or a step, ASK. Good luck to you!

Specializes in pediatrics, ED.

Good luck! But you should NEVER be ALONE. don't be afraid to ask for help and take the wild ride and run!

i had my first shift off orientation today. they gave me a whole wing to man by myself. it was rough. i wasn't familiar with the patients that I had and i was scrambling to get all my meds done.

my preceptor told me that i did pretty well for my first time being alone and i got everything done with only a "minor" delay.

here's hoping 2nd day post-orientation will be easier. fun times!

Like the others have said, remember that you will never be alone, and never be afraid to ask.

I am still reminding myself of that over a year later.

Good luck!

Wow I'm so jealous of all your orientations! I had 8 shifts before I was thrown to the wolves.
