WHEN IS EMERGENCY NURSES DAY THIS YEAR? AND DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS FOR CELEBRATING IT AT YOUR WORK PLACE. JOY LEE:D

I think that it is in October??? I don't think that we ever celebrate it.

It's in October...

FOOD! FOOD! FOOD! ;) :) :D

One suggestion is to talk to the drug reps that routinely come to your facility. You can usually get food and small gifts for the staff from them if you don't have a built-in budget.

If you do have a budget, check with local business people. Frequently new business folks are eager to advertise. One year we gave away free 30min massages to all our staff from a new spa that was opening up.

Another place to try is the agency's that help staff your ER (if you use them) or if your ER docs work for a company instead of employed by the hospital.

Basically just "hit up" anyone that directly or indirectly benifits/profits from your department. The worse they can do is say no, and you'll be surprised how many say yes.

With a little time and effort you can make ER nurse day a great day for everyone.

P.S. Don't forget the private ambo companies that either pick up or bring patients. :biggringi :balloons: :biggringi

hello Emergency Nurses Week is October 5-11. We normally have some drug reps come to our local ENA chapter meeting and they will generally foot the bill as long as you can allow them to have some education time. Our local chapter has had dinners sponsered by drug reps bi-monthly, so in October there are reps that we have established a working relationship with and that want to sponser our special week.

Some ER directors have had special contests within the unit like "best IV sticks", "Most cool-headed in a stessful situation" (See Journal Of Emergency Nursing, August issue..) but usually a director will give a grab bag to staff with candy, a note of thanks and a magnet or some other token ordered from ENA's website for emergency nurses week.

Our Docs provide dinner and the department gives us a gift. Usually a hand bag or umbrella or something with the hospital logo on it. We do not limit it to nurses - all ER staff are included.
