Re: Best ER references
I don't really have any particular text I use as a reference per se. I think that is one of the great things about being an RN in an ER is the variety of patients and ailments you encounter. You must become a jack of all trades, master of all! Too many reference books to read.
Experience, common sense, sense of humor, and being a team player I think are the best things to being a great ER RN.
Follow any decent study guide for your CEN and that should be a good resource. Also, if you are working in an adult ICU, perhaps look to go to an adults only ER as going right to a peds ER can be a tad intimidating for many.
I think time management and priority setting are the two biggest obstacles for ICU nurses transitioning into the ED.
