DNP then NP

  1. I got my MSN Ed last year and am now halfway through my DNP. I considered doing the NP/DNP dual degree, but I decided it was too much all at once. My plan is to work as an NP with a side teaching job and move more into teaching as I get older. Any idea of programs designed to get your NP AFTER obtaining the DNP? (I know I have done things a bit backwards, but doing the DNP is more manageable at this moment. I couldn't have completed the clinical hours for an NP over the next few years while my kids are at home.). thanks!

Many programs offer a post MSN/DNP option for those seeking an additional specialization.

    Best wishes.

Most of them seem to offer an "additional" specialization for those who are already NPs, but since I got my MSN Ed, I wasn't sure which had programs specifically for people who are not NPs already.

You should be able to apply to any of them. Obviously you will be required to take all of the core courses, but you should receive credit for most, if not all, of your previous DNP coursework.

    Best wishes.

How are you getting your DNP without an APN of some flavor? Advanced Practice is one of the 8 essentials of the DNP, and education is explicitly not a focus of the DNP.

One can get a DNP in educational leadership. You can have a DNP without being an APRN

Really, from where? That seems to be against the point of having a clinical doctorate if the subject of said doctorate isn't clinical.

One could argue that unless your DNP is in an ARNP specialty, it is not really a clinical doctorate.

You could google that...but let me help you out
