Anyone have any thoughts on Eastern Kentucky University DNP program? I live in KY and prefer to do an online program. I am been researching and there are a lot of outstanding DNP online programs but a lot of them require you to be on campus a few times a year and that may be hard for me. Therefore I opted to stay locally. If anyone can give me advice on EKU DNP program, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Did you happen to start at EKU? Thinking about their NP program.

I started the DNP program last week! So far, I have enjoyed the flexibility. My 2 girlfriends are in the FNP program. They started off with theory and had to write papers. It is manageable while working. We all work full-time and have kids. You just need to be disciplined with your readings and homework. I have delegated Friday and Saturday nights to do school work with doing some reading throughout the week. If you have specific questions, let me know.

Is it still going well for you?

Actually, it has been going well for me. I am really glad I applied to this program. It's early to tell if it's going to stay like this but personally I think I made a good decision.

Well that's good to hear. I just completed my application for the MSN and should know in toe weeks.

Are any of you in the mental health focus? Are the professors really helpful? Are you doing the online program? @ella86RN did you start the program yet?

I don't start until January, and it is the PMHNP program.

Specializes in Cardiac Nursing.

I'm thinking of the EKU program also. Who is it going for all of you who are attending? How was the application process?

I just finished my first class, which I am pretty sure was a weed out class. It is hard for me to say anything useful at this time. I finished the class with an A, but I feel like there was room for improvement on my part, as well as the actual classes part. The assignments aren't always that clear. I start my second class on Monday.

Specializes in Correctional Nursing; MSN student.

Interested in the PMHNP program. How long in weeks is each course? Are you taking one at a time? I couldn't tell from the website how the courses work. Thank you!

Classes are 8 weeks long each, one at a time. I think my next block of class has two classes that overlap, but I think that's the only time. I'm undecided at the moment. Don't want to say anything about the program yet since I haven't been attending that long!
