Hi Everyone,

I applied for the August start date as well. I haven't been on this site for a while....it's great to know we are all in the same boat. I'm worried about the prerequisite situation....I am taking A&P I and A&P ll right now and will finish Aug. 9th. I guess I should start praying!!! Congrats wannabe07. Were you able to pick your schedule at Sharp? How did that work?

Hey everyone! I was wondering about the US history prereq...my school offers two semesters of US history (5 units each). Will I need to take both classes to fulfill this? The class is titled, "US history before 1877" and the other class is called, "US history after 1877". Any information is good.

For those who applied, how long did it take them to inform you of your acceptance or rejection?

Hi kryztality,

I've taken both to satisfy the AA requirements but I think the admissions people said you could take either one. I am not completely sure though so hopefully someone can give better clarification.

Hi, sorry it took so long to respond, I haven't been on this site for longer than a minute for a while. We were assigned our groups and clinical days and locations. Some people were able to switch if they found a person to switch with. I am blessed with an awesome group and a great instructor so I'm happy. I am not sure if you stay in the same group the whole time, time will tell.

Check with Kennessa or Phyllis. I had to make sure mine was in a certain period...they made sure I had pre- and post-Civil war, if I can remember correctly. Definitely check with them before taking it though...wasted time and money is not good.

Hi Guys, I'm in the process of applying as well and was wondering if you guys (for those accepted) could post your stats (gpa, science gpa). I am really worry that I won't get in, I need some real numbers to give me a little peace of mind...=T I have contacted the school for this but they said that because they are relatively new that they haven't calculated the average GPAs for the incoming classes from previous years.....so yeah... if you guys could please post your info that'll be greatly appreciated.. Thanks!! =D

I spoke with Kennessa and she said they just need one US History class, pre or post civil war. Heads up to those who are taking pre-reqs at a quarter system school, make sure the quarter units convert to the right amount of semester units they need. I took my micro class for 5 units at CSUEB and it converts to only 3.3 semester units! U of Oklahoma wants 4 sem units for this. Now they're telling me I have to take another Micro class to fulfill the .7 units. So annoying...

So here's my dilemma, I've booked an international flight (way back in Jan) to Germany that departs on Aug 13, so that means that I can't go to the orientation.

So I just want to know what I would be missing if I didn't go to the orientation. What do you do at orientation and how long does it last? Do you think it would be feasible if I had someone go for me and videotape it so I don't miss any important info? I'm trying to figure out what to do because changing my flight plans, that I made back in Jan, would be VERY expensive.

Please let me know when you get the chance, I'd really appreciate it!!
Hellokitty:
Hi there! I have applied for Aug 25, 08 start and was told that applicants will find out if accepted by mid-late July. Have you already received your acceptance letter?
I was not informed of any orientation schedule when I applied. Hmmm. Now I'm a bit worried because, like you, I have travel plans out of the country during mid August and there's no way to change dates without being hit with a $1,500 loss. That's totally unacceptable!
Perhaps, if I do get accepted we can have another student video the orientation. I'll pitch in for any related costs, naturally. I think I'll call Kanessa to find out more info. I'll post a synopis of whatever I find out.

And to Wannabe07: Congrats! Keep all your notes so us two "kitty-cats" can hit you up with questions! I've heard that the program is very intense. I'd love to meet you and see what you think of the program at the end of your summer session. Until then...remember to eat healthy and get your sleep so you don't burn yourself out with the related stressors.

Hey Nicole

(and everybody else waiting to hear about acceptance in the Fall 2008 cohort)

In my opinion:

Try not to stress out right now, everything's out of our hands. We either will or will not get accepted this time around. We have no control and can't change any outcome. So why worry? Is it going to change anything? No. Worrying about an outcome AFTER you've done everything you can do is really just a waste of energy and actually self-destructive.

Try to trust in the process and just know, that everything's going to work out. Just like everything has in the past. One way or another....it all works out to your best interest...whether we can see that at at the time or not. That old "20/20 vision hindsight" can be turned into peaceful thoughts for future endeavors once you remember that everything works out in the end.

I don't want to sound "preachy" but at 47 yrs old, I've learned a few things about life. For instance if you or I don't get in this semester and have to wait until Spring, that little "down time" while waiting could just be the thing we need mentally/emotionally/physically after rushing through to finish our pre-reqs. Maybe if we have to wait, it's because we're supposed to meet someone that's going to be very influential in our careers--that we wouldn't have met had we got in this semester. Those who get in this Fall are on the right paths...for them! Those who have to wait are on the right paths for them, too.

It's amazing how much easier life gets when we really just do the best we can do---at the time---and then let the "process" take it's course.
The power of positive thinking is pretty spectacular. There's only two choices: Relax or worry. We DO get to choose. We can either "dance alone if we have to" or we can sit in the shadows and wonder why nobody wants to dance.

These are the types of "life-skills" we'll need to perform optimally as a medical caregiver. Relax-Do-Trust-Let go-Relax-Enjoy.

That's my two-cents worth. So let's enjoy the summer. Everything's gonna be fine! Let's DANCE!

BIG HUG,
Renee
