I am looking at Thomas Edison, Liberty, and Florida Hospital College for my online RN to BSN program.
Has anyone been told that their science courses are to old? I took my sciences in the 70's.
And does anyone know what the practicum/clinicals are like? I was told by Liberty that the only clinical was a health assessment observed by a BSN or higher but this was not from the nursing department.
Also do you need to have all your general education classes completed before applying to the programs? I was told by one of the schools that I should have already had chemistry with a lab but my LPN and Associates programs did not reguire it at the time?

I have to say I assumed Excelsior would be regarded as a "diploma mill," and planned to do Stony Brook's RN-to-BSN program, but when I had a meeting at a prestigious medical college to discuss admission to their master's program, they *suggested* Excelsior because it's local (NY), fast and is generous regarding accepting credits.

Thanks for the info. I hadn't thought about the "diploma mill" aspect. I had thought about Excelsior in the past but one of my friends who came up from Virginia for the clinical, failed it. I was concerned about the amount of money it would cost if I failed it and had to retake it. I also knew someone else that passed it but they suggested a review course for it first. Do you or anyone know about review courses for the clinical portion?

I got my degree through the University of Jacksonville, in Florida. The program was easy to use and the professors were easy to get in touch with if you had questions or problems. I don't know what the cost is now but about 3 to 4 years ago it was 1300 for a 3 credit class and that included the books. NAU of Arizona is working on a online program but I don't think that it is set up yet. I am from a town that only has a community college so online was a good option. Plus I didn't have to make arrangements to change my schuedle at work to attend classes.

I am in the online program with the University of Wyoming, only about 5 classes away from graduation with my BSN. There are no residency requirements. The cost is $134 per credit hour (it breaks down to $90 per credit and $34 per hr. "delivery" fee). Overall, I find the cost and program to be good, and I have been in the program for several semesters. All of their nursing courses are online but you may have to go outside the program for classes like art or math if you need them. I started wiht U of WY. while living in Wyoming, and continued when I moved back to Florida. I did check out other programs but this was by far the most reasonably priced. Best wishes in your pursuit!

dotidot-I graduated with my Associates' degree from Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences, located in Orlando, in 2003. I liked the school and the instructors. I have not participated in their online program, but can recommend the college from the standpoint of having been an on-campus student. It is expensive though. Isn't it around $300 per hour now? Due to the cost, I did not persue their online program, I am in the University of Wyoming program. See my other post here regarding that. Best wishes!

I read online that University of Wyoming lists under Required Elective\Graduation Courses, US and Wyoming Constitution. Do you know if you have to take it or can you choose another course. It is not that I have any thing against it but I was hoping to transfer as many credits as possible from other colleges.

Hello,
I am an Assistant Director of Admission for a University. I have lots of experience as this is my specialty. I would tell you to make sure that the program is accredited both at the univeristy and program level. Look for regional or national accreditation at the college/university level and CCNE at the program level.
Make sure that the school you choose to attend has a long history in the BSN programs. Many school just started their programs and aren't very strong. You want a school with a strong history. Your best option is a school that has a ground campus that has a strong program and then an online program that mirrors the ground program. This will ensure that you have a real University to deal with and that the program has a proven track history.
You can always go to this website for more information:
http://www.ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.asp
It's the US DOE website for accred schools.
You can always email me and I can answer your questions.
Good luck and let me know if you need help.
