I know that if I had failed my CPNE, I would have seriously considered not trying again ... but being a Paramedic, I didn't have another route to that RN that wouldn't involve me starting from total scratch -- there aren't any P-to-RN programs in my area.
When I failed what should have been my last PCS for a silly error (failing to ID the patient, whoops), I paced hallways for about two hours while waiting for my next PCS, and during that time, I made a deal with myself (probably talking out loud, I'm sure I looked like a crazy person, LOL) that if I failed, I
would try again. Thank goodness that wasn't necessary in the end, but it was important to give myself permission to not succeed, in a way, but to also to promise myself that I wouldn't give up my goal of being an RN.
The CPNE definitely takes people outside their comfort zone, which is really unsettling, I know. *hugs* Take some time for yourself, then take a deep breath and decide if you really want to start all over, or take a chance (it's an expensive chance, I know!) that you could reach your goal in a 2.5-day exam. And we'll be here for you either way!
