Okay, ordered my lab kit and microscope today. All books are in for next semester too. I am really excited to be able to school at home and keep my work schedule more flexible.

Unhappy I'm new and I kinda have a dumb question
[quote=KellyMarie37]Wow, that's great that so many schools are offering more online classes. It's really a lifesaver for working parents. Our local college offers on average only 3-4 classes online.

Hi Kelly. I only found out about the distance learning from this thread. (I've actually never been to a chat room before!) but I do have some questions. Can I take my RN pre-req through online courses? How does it work? Can I transfer to a college or can I actually go through online courses to get an LVN to RN program? I'm sorry my questions are dumb. But I'm excited to hear that I can go to school through the internet. I went through a part time LVN program and we have a business that takes us to different parts of the city, state or country and there are times when I had to drive for 6 hours straight just to make it to class on time. I'm exhausted!!!! But I do want to continue going to school for my RN. BTW, I also have a young one and a teenage at home and I'd like to be spend more time with them. Any info will be very, very helpful. Thanks a million.

Has anyone received their lab kits yet? I received a piece they said was missing from the kit they sent out but no kit or microscope? Just wondering why the missing piece would be here before the kit. lol

Well, I hate to say it but the first impression I am getting from this school is not a good one. I hope it improves.

The missing piece was probably shipped from the supplier directly or at least another location. I haven't gotten anything yet but am pretty excited to get my microscope!

I am using Pueblo as my home school and I am very happy with how quick they have responded to me. I tried a couple other places first and couldn't get a response.

I think I solved the discrepency on ISBN's for the book though. The publisher gives different ISBN's to different bundles. So if you got a CD or the OLC card, you have a different number than if you got just the book. HTH's.

Okay, I don't know if I am dense or what but what book/bundle did you choose? The reason I am looking for another book to use is because I am trying to avoid the 140.00 price tag on the one the ccconline offers. I called the ccconline bookstore and they would not divulge one bit of information regarding the isbn nor the name of the cd that is bundled with it. In addition, I have not received any kind of course direction/enrollment confirmation email either. I called the ccconline help services desk and they could not give me any information about the book either. I guess I choose the wrong home college because they have not been helpful at all.

In my experience with other colleges the cd's are basically for your own personal use so I'm thinking if I can do without the cd and just buy a used book it makes more sense financially.

Thanks to all of you for helping.

I ended up just buying the $140 book to be on the safe side and make sure I was going to have what's needed for the class because once it starts, I didn't want to have to say I bought it elsewhere, because if there was a problem and I didn't buy it from them I would have been SOL. I did find the book for my other class cheaper on amazon though. I called the bookstore and they verified what cd came with the Human Growth & Development book so I knew I had the right book.
What school did you enroll at? I am enrolled at Colorado Northwestern Community College and I've received an email stating that I would get further information on January 21st concerning my classes beginning January 24th. hth's

There really isn't a proper lab (i.e., no slides to prep, no cultures) for micro. I did the CHM 130 with an at home lab. And you are doing labs and alot of them. You get a lab kit but have to supply the chemicals yourself. They are ordinary chemicals that you get from the drug or grocery store (hydrogen peroxide, iodine, etc.) If you are local you can do an in-person lab. I am local but chose the online because of childcare issues.
