Re: Online Science Courses --- Can we get a sticky?
Just wanted to share some of my experience with Rio Salado with you guys.
I've just finished taking BIO156 (Introductory biology for allied health) as a refresher/pre-req for A&P. It was amazing. By far the best instructor I have ever had, online or offline for any subject. He was very demanding, assigning essays, labs and quizes every week, but it was absolutely worth it.
I also finished HCC145AA, which is Medical Terminology. I wasn't too excited about this instructor. All she did was put online some notes on the test and a list with words we needed to know for the exam. She gave us a quiz and a case study every two weeks. It was an easy class, so I can't really blame her for not putting in a lot of effort.
Then I'm also taking MAT142, Applied College Math, right now. The instructor is not as actively involved as the one for biology. However, this math class is about the most interesting I've ever had. It actually is all about applying what you already know about math. Again, there is a quiz due every other week. And there are TONS of exercises available on MathLab.
Starting A&P in two weeks!
This is another great feature about Rio Salado, there classes start every two weeks!! I started my pre-reqs last May and I will have all of them finished by May. Which is a LOT faster than would be possible through the old-fashioned way.
When you're an Arizona resident, Rio Salado offers the same tuition rates as the other community college within the Maricopa Community Colleges, this is $65/credit hour.
They also have testing centers all over the Valley, so no matter where you live in the Phoenix metro area, they WILL have a center near you!
As you might be able to tell, I absolutely love it!
