Thank you! We need more people like you to support us in this. I have worked with many EC grads and will attest to the fact that they are much more prepared than most traditional nursing school grads. I have been fortunate as an LPN to have the clinical hospital experience that I do. Not trying to toot my own horn but my clinical skills far surpass many of the seasoned RNs that I have worked with and I have an excellent reputation with the physicians that I work with for being the "go to" nurse when something needs to be done.

Pmdc,
Fellow letter writing fiend here. I will send as many letters as need be because writing has always been and probably will always be my strong suit. I agree with you encouraging GANurse to go ahead and take the CPNE.

Thanks, and I'm glad to help! CraigB may have some resources available that might help, if you see his post a couple of pages back.

Does anyone have all of the contact info for the GA BON members? Posting their official state e-mail addresses shouldn't violate TOS since it's considered public information, right? If it is okay, then post them here so all concerned will have easy access to them. If not, we can use e-mail/PM. They really need to know not only what a bad decision they have made, but how many people their actions will negatively affect.

Also, has anyone figured out who sponsored the House Bill that they refer to in the e-mail, which seems to be the basis for their recent action? The politicians under the gold dome need to hear from us also.

Anyone feel free to PM or e-mail me with anything you would rather not post.

Please let me know how and when to help with anything. I have only NC6/7 along with Micro biology and A&P to finish.

I know I do not want all my time, effort and dedication to go down the drain.

Can PM me with details.

This is all i found on HB 1041

HB 1041 - Georgia Registered Professional Nurse Practice Act; obsolete language; eliminate
- BILL SUMMARY: This bill would remove obsolete language concerning the designation of graduate nurses from the
Nurse Practice Act, as well as require applicants for Licensed Registered Nurses and Advanced Practice Nurses undergo
a criminal background check as part of the application process.
- Authored By:
Rep. Sharon Cooper of the 41st

- House Committee:
Health & Human Services

- Rule:
Open

- Amendments(s):
N/A

- Yeas: 155; Nays: 1

I also found the bill in it's entirety at http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2..._1041_AP_4.htm

Here is the part refering to endorsement
c) An applicant for licensure by endorsement shall:
(1) Submit a completed written application and fee;
(2) Have passed a board recognized licensing examination following graduation from the a nursing education program approved by the board or which meets criteria similar to, and not less stringent than, those established by the board;
(3) Submit verification of initial and current licensure in any other licensing jurisdiction administering a board recognized licensing examination;
(4) Have practiced nursing as a registered professional nurse for a period of time as determined by the board or have graduated from a nursing education program within the four years immediately preceding the date of the application;

Sorry I know it's alot to digest. Pretty much what they are now saying is that EC does not meet their standards for education so they will not grant endorsement.

When I started this thread and told everyone of my experience I think it offended a lot of people. Most people stated that what I said was not true. I decided to just sit back and wait for the chips to fall where they may. Now I know of another EC student who has been denied and yet another who is still waiting for an answer after three weeks; it is now past the 10-14 business days they usually quote. I was literally the first student from EC to be denied a GA license. So it really hit me like a ton of bricks. I am still having to work as an LPN though I have RN license in three states. My family is seriously contemplating moving from GA; I will leave in December if this thing is not resolved.

However, I have hired an attorney who has done a lot of administrative law. He even worked as an administrative law judge and hearing officer for the board. He is also a Former Attorney General for the Georgia. He says that all hope is not lost we must wait and see. But there are options and the law is yet to be interpreted by the GA Supreme Court. I am sure Excelsiors Attorneys are working on this matter. I don't think they are going to just lie down and say "OK." But I didn't want to wait for them, so I hired my own.

I don't understand the rationale for this action. On any given day you can use internet search engines to look at RN opportunities; in Atlanta GA alone more than 500 jobs are available everyday. Even now as an LPN I earn 27.00-29.00 an hour. Imagine how this is going to impact the shortage more and drive up the wages. I don't think the powers that be considered this. Not to even mention the foreign trained nurses they keep importing from third world countries. Do they think they are trained any better that we are? I recently heard from a nurse manager at one VERY LARGE local hospital chain that they many of the higher ups and nurse recruiters are going to the Olympics in China. She said while they were over there that they would be touring the school and looking at the nursing programs and graduates. She boasted on how this hospital system is looking to pioneer a program to bring "competent" nurses from China because they have so many. I guess since they can't outsource nursing jobs they will just import cheaper nurses. I do believe the spirit of capitalism is going to be the death of America. When are we as a nation going to wake up.

And just as a previous post wrote. I can run circles around any traditional new grad RN. I have over 13 years nursing experience at least 10 years in a hospital setting. They have no experience at all, yet they are more qualified because they went to a mental health and maternal infant clinical rotation for a week? I can't believe this is happening. Sorry for the long post....I am just venting.

Good Luck Everyone.

If I'm not mistaken, Mr. Thigpen lives in my town. I'm assuming that we can send snail mail to the attention of each individual at the GA BON's general address. Anyway, like I said, have fingers will type.
