I've applied to the VA. If that doesn't work out I'm just going to work out of state and hope my husband finds a job out of state with me. The school made it clear to me that hospitals will not do this preceptor-ship because we are not covered under the school's insurance.

Georgia doesn't want me as a nurse?? Cool. I'm leaving.

I had no trouble setting up my preceptorship. Try medical center of central ga in macon and ga regional for your psych.

Who did you speak to in setting it up. I'm still waiting on the lady to complete my paperwork so I can send it to the board, they meet next week. Also, is there a fee as I've been hearing?

Hello all,

I have been reading this thread and I have a few questions and concerns and I just wanted to make sure I have my information correct. I am interested in attending a program for respiratory therapy in the Spring quarter of 2010. If I decide that I want to become a registered nurse through Excelsior and complete that program I would have to pay a fee, apply to take the NCLEX, and then set up my own preceptor hours? Is this correct? Does anyone know what hospitals in the Metro Atlanta area allow this? The preceptor time is unpaid, correct? Can someone who has experience with this please give me some insight. Thank you in advance.

Unfortunately, the governor signed into law that will not allow Respiratory therapists to complete the program in GA. Most other states allow RT's to complete the program. If you really want to become a nurse, just go to nursing school. Respiratory is a great field as I am one also but I should have gone into nursing right out of school. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
