Thanks. Dekalb Medical denied having any sort of program, but I guess since you work there your situation is different. I'll keep trying.

hey gemini79,

Are you being paid while you are doing your preceptorship? Or, is it non-compensatory? How did you only have to do 500 hours? I never saw that in the posted rules on GBON's website. I only saw 350 for LPN's, and 700 for Paramedics.

Being an RT got us 500 hours. You can be compensated but not as an RN.

So, I got a letter from the college yesterday. It seems a group of LPNs are being denied endorsement into Georgia because we SHOULD have taken the boards FOR Georgia. We didn't know it was and option at that point because we were advised by EC to stick with standard endorsement procedure until GA set up guidelines for the new law. The group of us sent in our endorsement application in June or early July.
The letter said we're pretty much we're screwed unless we work in a neighboring state or work for the VA. Since we hold an RN license in another state, we are subject to every states endorsement policies.

FYI

Work in another state or work for the VA. After 1800 hours I can come into Georgia to work. The school flat out said that there are no places that are wiling to precept because we are alumni and aren't covered by school insurance. If I worked in an acute care facility I could get my precepted hours, but I don't.

Well this board is just crazy. I am working on my 500 hours right now. I can't believe that they are denying LPN's too. I am able to precept at my current hospital but it wasn't easy to get it all approved. I feel bad for all of you especially if you don't work at an acute care facility. I would look into finding a job at one and see if they have a nurse residency program that can help you get the hours the board wants. I didn't know they were still denying graduates and that the school isn't helping much either.

Reading this post just answered a question, I was just pondering. Can and should I still take my nclex, in another state, even through I live in GA. The reason why I was considering, is because I haven't worked in a acute care facility. I've only worked in hospice, home health, and as a school nurse. But from reading the above post, it seems as if they will deny me anyway, and i'll have to do more hours elsewhere.
I don't think you should blame the school, because they where just tring to be helpful, seeing as back in April GA stated
"Although the terms of HB 475 became law upon signing by the Governor, the Board of Nursing still needs to develop rules and procedures to put the details into effect, a process that could take months to complete. We have been told by the Board that until it issues these rules and procedures, the current process is still in effect."
So the school said isn't to blame, Ga is. In my eyes, that is.

So i guess it's best for me to, apply to take nclex for GA. Pass, get temp lic. and do however many hours they say.

I know the school is not at fault for this but how many times have you been contacted by them regarding the GA BON?? I can count a number of twice that they have contacted me. I took my nclex in oct 2008. I surely wouldn't have taken the nclex this year at all till a decision was made. I never got the decision about my 500 hours till May. I surely wouldn't have told the students to go ahead and take the nclex out of state. I surely would have waited for a decision to be made. That is a mistake on the schools part. Like I said in an earlier post, we are all in this together and finding clinical sites is difficult but it can be done. I am just floored that LPN's are being required to do clinical hours when in LPN school most do the hours that are required.
