You can contact the BRN to find out what their requirements are, on a case by case basis, to approve applications for CA RN license by Excelsior College graduates.

You had mentioned in your other thread, about TCN, that you would be going through the ISU program. Indiana State U and Excelsior College are two entirely different, separate programs. ISU's program is, I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong! ) accepted in CA for RN licensure. The problem CA (and other states) has with Excelsior is the lack of clinical experience, which ISU has.

It's not that EC grads lack clinical experience, but some state BONs require clinical instruction concurrent with theory. At least, that's how things are often worded. YMMV.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear enough -- formal supervised clinical experience as part of the educational program was what I meant when I said "lack of clinical experience."

Unfortunately California is a tight wad state and wont accept Excelsior. Excelsior lacks the clinical floor time. Which IMO, is pretty stupid because most LVN's in California DO HAVE THE PAID EXPERIENCE as LVN's which also means floor time. As one of the previous posters stated, they will allow you to sit for the NCLEX on a case by case basis. I contacted California and they will allow Excelsior grads to sit for the exam if they have about 1000 hours of paid experience out of state as a RN. But also I heard at least one year paid experience as a RN. So if you're in California and you can find a federal job as a nurse that doesn't require a California license (any other state license will do), then you can get your one years experience and then apply for endorsement. That I don't know, but you might want to contact the BRN for that.
