CPNE Questions :)

Hello everyone. I just had a few questions about the CPNE. First off does the CE assign you certain things to assess, for instance neuro, abdominal, comfort, and wound management. Or do you go in to a pts room and do a full head to toe assessment. Also, when it comes to careplans do you get to pick your own problems r/t the pt assigned, or do they assign you problems to write a careplan for?
I have been waiting for 3 months now to get my exam date and I am freaking out!! I just want to have a clear picture of the CPNE before I go. If anyone has any info to help me out I would be soooooo thankful!

Have you read the guide? You really need to. You are assisgned areas of care, and your perform the critical elements in the guide. Some of your AOCs may be assessment and some management. Do this:

-Print Section IV of the guide here: https://www.excelsior.edu/portal/page/portal/EC_MyEC_Portlets/Performance_Exams_Resources_and_Services/CPNE_Study_Guide_16th_Edition.pdf

-Then order this (Robs CPNE AOC video): http://robscpne.com/

- Then read and reread that above referenced section of the guide. Read the whole guide also, but that is the meat of what you will need to perform.

- And spend time and ask questions here (go to the nursing discussion boards, the Associate Degree, then CPNE): https://www.excelsior.edu/pls/portal...c_Peer_Network

Ohh, and you pick your own problem r/t the pt, but KISS. Meaning make the first a problem r/t one of your assigned AOCs, so that you will have it built in. And make the other a "Risk for" that applies to the pt. For example a pt with an unsteady gait, would automatically be "Risk for Injury", and the two interventions would be what need to be done anyway, "Rails up x2", and "Call bell in reach."

Good Luck!

You will get 5 assigned areas of care and you also have to do your standards area of care. You choose what careplans/nsg dx you want to use and carry out. I have also been waiting for 2mos and have not heard anything yet. Where are you testing? Also I attended Lynn's workshop and it helped alot for clairfying everything. I was sooooo confused before her workshop. It is a great workshop for starting out. Well good luck and you can pm me for my email address if you want. Hope this helps!

I went through the entire Electronic Peer Network and printed out enough material to fill 2 3" 3ring binders. I've found answers to all my questions there, as well as lots of care plans that have been reviewed by the nursing staff at EC. I reviewed everything and thank goodness I did! I got my date 3 weeks after applying in Northeast Region, but I checked every site available. I'm going to Albany Medical center next month.

Good Luck!!!! Try and live in the moment there. It really is all about your comfort with providing patient care. I truly believe my 17 years of patient experience as an RCP enabled me to be so comfortable with my CPNE patients, which made it easy to concentrate on my CEs.

I will never forget my experience.

Having worked only hospitals (rare around here), I am very comfortable taking care of pts. I "practice" at work. My patients generally like me, so I guess I'm doing something right. The ones who don't like me, don't like anybody. What worries me, is I'm not worried. Maybe all those nightmares I'm having are telling me different!lol.
