CLEP Credit- for pre reqs and RN to BSN

Hi I was wondering if anyone has taken CLEP exams to meet nursing prerequisites? The test is available in Growth and Development, Psychology and Sociology which are common requirements. The tests cost $55 and study guide prices vary on Amazon.com from $18-40. It doesn't seem that different than registering for a distance learning class since its basically independent study. Seems like a good way to save money and earn credits quickly.

CLEP tests would also seem to work for students who are in RN to BSN programs that require you to go back and earn general studies credits since they have the tests in english, history, literature etc. Tests might be alittle harder in the sciences if thats not your thing....

Their website has an exhaustive list of college who accept CLEP credit. I do know that some colleges have a limit (like a maximum of 12 credits).

http://www.collegeboard.com/student/...lep/about.html

I haven't done it yet, but since I have a degree in education, I feel that with a some studying, I should be able to pass the the human development and psychology test, so I can save money for my science classes.

Anyway, anyone out there have any feedback?

Thanks.

I took the biology CLEP and passed. I studied with a CLEP study guide but passed on the first try. You can do it. Get a study guide and you'll be fine.

Cleps are a great way to accumulate credits. I have taken about 7 cleps and saved mucho bucks. I still would like to take the humanities clep but that one scares me for some reason. Always make sure the institution you plan to attend accepts clep credits.

Good Luck

i passed psych and sociology cleps with minimal studying, i thought they were very basic. i just took the amer gov clep after studying intensely for approx 5 weeks and felt that it was the most difficult test i'd ever taken other than nclex- i passed it though!

Yep, the pass rate on that clep is very low. Kudos to you for passing it.

I clepped sociology and passed after about 3 1/2 hours of studying. I didn't do as well as I could have, but I passed.

i used entry level college textbooks from the college library to study for mine, although for psych and sociology i didn't read beyond the first 2-3 chapters, what i found to be really valuable were the laminated course outlines at borders. they are jammed with so much info.

Check with an advisor before you take Growth & Development- EC might not accept that particular one. They do accept the Soc & Psych CLEPs.
