Any RT's going for RN?

by MegRT

I just started the Excelsior program and was wondering if there are any other RT's changing careers?

I'm seeing all the threads about how hard it is to get a job as a new grad, I'm wondering if they will count my 5 years as an RT as experience?? I would love to go right into critcal care, but I'm not sure that will be possible.

I just finished my last exam yesterday. I graduate Excelsior on Dec. 18.

As far as the job world, I have no idea what will happen. I believe that it definitely has a lot to do with who you know. I've actually been requested to apply for our ICU. The only concern is, can they match my 17 years of being an RCP salary? I'm just happy to have a whole new avenue of job abilities in this terrible economic market.

I kinda doubt it ... they seem to be pretty hard-line on the whole "a new grad is a new grad" concept. I got zero credit for prior hospital system experience, but then again, I was "just" a tech and a paramedic. Ha ha. Hope they can pull some strings for you!
