termination or not

Okay so this is for any body who can answer this

There is a nurse who was wanting to go to her baby shower Saturday. We get our schedule at the end of the month. She has been knowing about the baby shower since last month, but did not request to be off. So the month of the baby shower she asks around for someone to change days with her. No one was willing to change days with her or work in her place. So the week of the week of the baby shower she goes to the doctor and requests a week off so she could go to her baby shower. She told a few people at work that she was going to do it. She turned her doctor's excuse in.The manager has to ask the ones who weren't on schedule to work in her place or close for her. She is so inconsiderate of others. By the way, we work every other Saturday and this would be her Saturday to work and next Saturday she is suppose to be off. This is so unfair to others who had already made plans, but had to change their plans. My question is, is this grounds for termination since she planned this?

I would doubt much can be done about it.

When working in a different field I was out late one night having a beverage or two and I also seen one of my staff out. The next morning I arrived to work and shortly after got a call from her telling me she was sick and could not come in.

I am very sure she was very hungover due to being out the night previously. But there was nothing I could do even though I had that knowledge. I was told that maybe it was the case but that is the individuals choice what they did and there was no requirement for medical certificates if only sick for one shift.

It is a pain in the bottom for sure. But little you can do about it.

Why wouldn't anyone switch a Saturday with her,it is her baby shower....That's a pretty important occasion..

OP says she knew well in advance and didn't request off. Other people make plans for their days off. I know I do, to catch up things. Pregnant or not, this was rude, since she could have requested off

I would be inclined to give her a break, she has a lot on her mind.I had such a bad case of "pregnancy brain"with our son I locked my keys in my car not once, not twice but three times.I had trouble keeping my work schedule straight, working full time, trying to get everything ready at home and being huge and dog tired....

I doubt there's anything that can be done since she produced a physician's excuse, but I'm sure her bosses were not fooled and I wouldn't be surprised if they were watching her v. closely going forward, looking for anything they can discipline (or fire) her for. Unless she is some kind of "pet" of one of her superiors, in which case she can probably do whatever she wants and get away with it ... :(

So when someone calls in sick, legit or not, the other staff member "have " to change their plans and fill in for the sick call even if the schedule has been posted for a while? No float pool etc? Not sure what setting this is.

If I worked every other Saturday and someone was having a baby shower for me I'd ask if they could do it on my weekend off or after I go on maternity leave.
