A friend's 88 yo mother A/O, in a w/c; walks a few steps occasionally with asst. in a nursing home, had a urology consult to change from a urethral cath to a supra cath per her nurses in the home. The urologist was irate that the nurses even suggested this option(he does not do the supra on any pt over 80). Pt does get UTIs every 2-3 months on average and has been pulled out 1-2x. Also, my friend said her mother hardly ever has the cath secure on. I did some Googling on the subject and it has to be done under general anesthesia, so I can understand the Docs point. Any thoughts on this?
