Dialysis in Prison Population

by HDNurse

One of our techs mentioned possibly working in the prison dialysis clinic and said that nurses are VERY WELL paid there and that it might be possible to pick up some extra shifts. I asked him to get me the information, but then he bailed on me and told me he doesn't know who to contact. Now I am really curious, and it sounds like something I would like to do. Does anyone know how I would find out who to contact for the Carson City, NV Corrections Facility Dialysis Unit?

I would SOOO be ready to let that group of dialysis patients go on hospice care. do not pass GO, do not collect $200, poo on you and the horse you rode in on.

As a group they've proven their worth to society, and the reasons they ended up on dialysis in the first place are likely not genetic.

Canoehead you are really outdoing yourself this time. Kidney disease can strike anyone at anytime including you! Also anyone can land in jail at anytime even if you have not committed a crime. Your lack of judgement amazes me. In order to receive tx you have to prove your worth to society, so how much are you worth? Regardless of why they are there, you have become judge, jury and executioner And your response is childish to a fellow nurse! There are a lot of HD nurses who do prison tx's and your response is offensive . Shame on you!

And also why do you keep posting in dialysis when it's obvious you know nothing about it. I have been in the field for about 10 yrs. and I certainly don't tell ER nurses what they should be doing in their field.

Hmm would be curious as to how you recieve and treat prisoner pts brought to ER? Personally, I have learned long time ago to put my personal feelings at the door when I walk through it to my job. I believe it is very unfair for someone as you to be so judgemental when you obviously dont have a clue regarding the dialysis world! My clinic treated prisoner pts who attended with gaurds and let me tell you I was treated with much respect as a professional by these same "prisoners" that I didnt recieve from many non-prisoners!!! As I mentioned in another thread - maybe go put yourself in the dialysis nurses shoes for abit in chronics then make you opinions.

One of my HDUs has the contract with the county jail and the inmates always behave themselves. Have never worked in a prison before though.

As to judging them, let's just say that I'm not in the position to do so.
