Davita vs Fresenius

Specialties Urology

Updated:   Published

I am about to be hired by Davita for a chronic dialysis RN position. However, I got an email about an Open House for Fresenius for all types of positions. This has piqued my curiosity. Even though I am about to receive a job offer at Davita, I am very tempted to go to Fresenius' open house. I am new to dialysis.

So I wanted to find out from you experienced RNs and ask for your opinion as to which of the 2 companies is better. I researched both, and I know that they are both very reputable companies. Which one would you say provides the best training, cares more for their employees, and which one pays higher?

If anyone can offer some feedback, I would greatly appreciate it.

thanks

Specializes in ICU, previously Dialysis.

I'm biased lol but DaVita. Just overall from experience and what I've heard from ppl who have left Fresenius to go to DaVita. But it does happen also that ppl leave DaVita for Fresenius. Also I know quite a few who work for both.

Specializes in ICU, Renal.

Well, if you look at the quarterly profit reports, Davita usually keeps improving, and the company keeps growing worldwide, but there seems to be a consistently high turnover for RN's in acutes and chronics. I can honestly say I've never (in many, many years) had such high and regular bonuses as I do now. I don't know anything about Fresenius, except we had a nurse who was wonderful, who left us for Fresenius-not sure why. Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!

so just curious, do you know why there's such a high turn-over?

Nature of the profession. It's stressful. It's a specialty you either love or hate, no in-between. Chronics is stable but routine for the most part. Acutes is more interesting but 20hr shifts burn you out, wear your body down.

thanks for that feedback. One more question. I hear that pt coding is a sure thing to happen. If a pt codes and God forbid, pt dies, could the pts family sue the company and/or you personally for their loved one's death? that's one of the things that I'm really concerned about.

I keep hearing about these bonuses, but haven't gotten one yet. I haven't been with the company long enough. Can you tell me roughly how much they are?

Pt's coding isn't a everyday thing in dialysis. It happens from time to time and you call 911 and perform CPR. They are never doa at the clinic. Most places your covered under malpractice. Unless you do something to cause them to die like put bleach in their system you shouldnt get sued

So glad my wife is with Davita and she loves it. She has always gotten some type of bonus as a floor nurse, but now she's an FA and the bonuses are a huge help now that I'm in between careers. From everything I hear, it is extremely hard work and the pay isn't much different from anywhere else, unless you're in a great clinic with good bonuses. Many people seem to burn out quickly and would rather have less stress. That's just my unexperienced opinion.

Depends on where you work, some places you do receive wage increases other places you do not. Expect to receive a 1-2% wage increase per year as a floor nurse and excuses that they have to stay within the budget. This explains quarterly profit increases. Again it depends on where you work, some places employees are treated like gold other places profits are more important. Hope you will be one of the lucky ones where you will be treated like gold.

Good luck
