Common Practice For Acutes Call Back Pay

i recently moved to fl from mo. i accepted a job as an acute dialysis nurse at davita. i have been an acute dialysis nurse >15 years but i have only worked in mo so i'm not sure what the common practices are in regards to pay and acute dialysis. so my question is this... is it common practice to pay call back pay to acute dialysis nurses when they get paged to come to work after hours?? i get $30 to be on call and straight time if i get called into unless it is >40 hours then it is ot pay. i'm referring to being on call and actually getting a page that requires you to go in to work. also.. here is a situation that i would also like to have a few comments from acute nurses across the us. july 4th i was paged to work at 1900.. i was into ot the day before so i ended up with just my overtime pay and no other compensation for spending my entire july 4th at work and away from my family. according to davita's policy if you are in ot on a holiday the holiday is then over rode and knocks out the holiday pay. now is this practice just in fl or is this common practice or was i just spoiled in mo??? in mo.. the company i worked for was not davita but we received time & half for call back pay no matter how many total hours you had. if you were already in ot and get called in you get double time. on holidays you received the call back diff as well as an extra 8 hours of pay. i am trying to figure out what the advantage of working in acutes in fl is?? is this a davita thing or do other acute dialysis companies function like this. the way i see it is acutes in fl is nothing more than a job that requires mandatory ot!! :twocents::banghead:

I also work for davita, but I was "bought out" from a private pay hospital system. So I am not sure what is old policy vs. true davita policy. We get $3.00 per hour just to carry the beeper. Then every time you get called in--wheter it be for some stupid ten minoute machine kicking--gurantee 3hours pay. If it is longer then the three hours you get time and 1/2 for how ever many hour. So in theory I could get called back in 5 times --get 15 hours of pay and only really spend 10 hours there--of course this is a FANTASY also. Sounds like they are trying to screw you though. :bluecry1:

Trust me.. I am feeling a bit screwed! Thanks for reply.

Blueskydeepwater,

Can you please give me advice for moving to Missouri? I plan on moving to St. Louis in November... What company should I work for? Why r u moving from MO? Is there something I should know before packing my bags?

Thanks,

Moved from Kansas City. Unfamilar with St Louis. If interested in KC then go to Kansas University Med Center. Best dialysis unit I worked at. Left Missouri because it is too cold!!

Good luck!

Hi, I work for a hospital and do chronic, acute and PD. I acute/call about once a week, all the RNs take turns from the chronic unit, we do weekend call-Sat and Sun every 2 months. We start at the chronic unit and if we have pts to do at the hosp. then whoever is on call goes and does them until they are done. So my day starts at 0600 and ends whenever, last night it ended at 2250. We now get time and a half after 1630 when we are on call. I get about $3.50/hour for carrying the beeper from 1630 to 0600. If I get called in I get a minimum of 2 hours time and half even if it only takes 5 minutes. Nice when we get called to set up CRRT or PD cycle. So yesterday I got straight time from 0600-1630 then time and a half from 1630 until 2250, then $3.50/hr until 0600, we never get double time. Then anything after my 40 hours of not call time is time and a half. Hope this makes sense

I work for FMC in NY. I get 7.00 hr for call pay. If I get called in, I am on OT. We take turns on call for Sundays and take call on once to twice a week with our shift. We do 3 12 hr's shifts.

Hi, I work in PA, I work 50/50 chronic/Acute we cover three hospitals and there are three of us acute nurses. We are on call every third weekend Fri, Sat, Sun. We get $25 a day for carring the pager, double time for holidays and we are scheduled 4 10 hour days a week, we are not scheduled to work the weekend just on call. But, every weekend we get called out (so this is overtime). If we get called out it is an automatic $100 bonus on top of our overtime, if we get called out again we get another $100 bonus, for instance today I had 3 bonuses and all overtime because I already had my 40 hours in for the week. I knew yestarday that I would be working because of the patients that where admitted. Also, if we are out two hours after our scheduled time to quit which is 1600, we get another $100 bonus. I really lucked out finding this job you can make some good money.
