Hi - need your expertise here. I will be the camp nurse for our church's summer camp this year and just found out that we will be having a camper who had a "recent" kidney transplant. I am attempting to get a hold of the parents for more specifics but was wondering if you had any words of wisdom.

I did some quick research and know that we should be watching weight, temps, s/s of infection, rejection etc. This is a camp for 3-8th grade and I am sure there is going to be germs everywhere-and they will be swimming in a lake. Also we are up in the mountains, and it is hot. We had lots of trouble keeping the kids hydrated last year (had contests etc to encourage it) and don't know how much that will effect this kid - do you monitor urine output etc?

Thanks!

You should be provided with all the info you need. Number one is medication. I am guessing that the little person you wil be looking after will ber very independent and will require little supervision in looking after the transplant.

Treat the kid like a kid!

Good luck! :p :p

Thanks for responding... turns out it was over 2 yrs ago and everything is peachy keen. -Just have to keep her well hydrated (a problem we had with all the kids last year), giver her meds and keep her away from grapefruit (who has that at camp?)

Looking forward to meeting her... sounds like quite the trooper.
