I work in Home Health and am having a terrible time with occluded foley catheters. I keep trying to explain that increasing the size of the foley is not the solution. (we'd end up purchasing the BIG ones at Home Depot!). Has anyone got a suggestion on how to keep these caths from plugging up?
Does irrigation really do much? If so, how often? Which solution? Are there any medications for long term use? My patients will have foleys forever, but I can't keep changing them Q2-3W!
I'm all alone out there, and my patients depend on me for guidance. Thank You
