Bicaflac and potassium

  1. I have had a discussion with a colleague tonight regarding the amount of potassium that can be added to a bag of "Bicaflac" ultrafiltrate solution for haemofiltration. One side of the debate argued 5mmol/l as a max (so as not to cause an imbalance of the other electrolytes in the bag), the other side said "as much as is needed to keep K+ at normal levels"..... anyone able to enlighten me?

I am fairly sure you add as much as you need depending on your client's blood results.

Thanks Farkinott, that is exactly what I thought. We were unable to reach a decision on the night in question and ended up running a separate k+ infusion.
