Need diabetic ed resources & free stuff

by RN1989

Hey ya'll, need some help. I need links and/or names of places to call to get diabetic education materials, etc. I have the usual places like ADA, TX Diabetes Council, NDEP so I'm covered for brochures. What I could use is stuff like diabetes starter kits, filament testers for neuropathy, glucose meters, any other free items that diabetics can get. I know at one hospital we had diabetic starter kits that had insulin syringes/sharp containers/coupons in them and they were free to us so we could give to pts. We also had glucose meters given free by some company (can't remember who) so that we could give them out to those who couldn't afford one. There were even little bags full of free samples of diabetic stuff like Splenda, diabetic candy - they also were full of coupons and diabetic recipes. I can't remember who to contact for all these little free things and I have need of them in the community. If you can help with any thoughts on this, let me know.

Contact the drug reps. We get our insulin starter kits from BD. Sanofi-Aventis supplies us with Lantus pens, CD's and more. Novo Nordisk gives us books and other stuff. Glucerna gives us snack bars for our out-patient class. The Pharmacy at Walmart gave us samples of stuff (glucose tablets and gel plus a few other supplies). The glucometer mfg. all supply free meters and strips. If you go to a AADE meeting you will get tons of stuff plus good contacts. Google for names of mfg.

I work for a diabetic supply company and we have free glucometers for patients. When approved by insurance (BCBS, Medicare, etc...) there is no out of pocket expense to the patient and supplies are mailed to their home. If you are interested, please respond back. Thanks!

for patients with no health insurance, a great resource is Walmart brand "Reli-on. The strips are more affordable than most name brands. We get free glucometers from our Bayer and Lifescan reps.

Call your reps. Bayer, Roche (AccuCheck), Abbott (freestyle) Johnson and Johnson (One Touch) all give out free meters. They keep us stocked. BD for supplies, syringes, pen needles, glucose tabs, education materials.
