I'm glad you did, I did not. My supervisor thinks I should try again, and not feel so bad, since I had just started a new job on Monday before I took the test. After the holidays are over, then I will deal with what I need to do re-take the test. I really hate giving up on this goal.

Piggy Bank CDE courses & Diabetic Foot/Nail Course
I am looking for info as to obtaining a CDE certification. Do you have to be obtaining a Masters Degree in order to be a CDE? I have my BSN but really have no interest in going back to college, racking up more student loans, etc. Is there an online course I could take? Any info would be helpful.

Also, if anyone is interested... Emory University in Atlanta, GA is in the works of scheduling a Diabetic Foot/Nail course. I am in contact with one of the instructors... no date set up yet but hopefully it will be soon. It is a 2 day course and you will also get 4 hours of hands on training with patients. Then of course, there is the certification exam... I haven't explored that area yet.

If interested in attending the DFN course at Emory... you can go to their website and contact one of the instructors to let you know when the course will be available.

There is a web site to get the requirements to start working on CDE, like teaching 1000 hours, must be RN, RD, MD, social worker, don't need your masters, or BSN, just RN part.

www.aace.com

www.diabeteseducator.org

I think the first one, and it will give the requirements.
Will look it up when I get home, and let you know.

The organization that offers the certification exam is the National Certification Board of Diabetes Educators. Their site offers info on the exam, as well as the requirements. Starting in 2009, the certification exam will be a computer based test. It is offered twice yearly.

Hope this helps!

Does anyone know of good test prep books for the CDE exam? I plan to take mine at the end of the year so I'd love to get an early start on getting ready for it.

Thanks.
