Homeless Diabetic patient

Hello, I currently am a lpn, jus got thru RN and will be taking
boards this June!

I work at a homeless detox shelter. I had a homeless patient, young
gentleman late 30s with diabetes. He has been diabetic since childhood, has no glucometer and counts carbs to know how much novolog insulin to give himself. He says he knows his body, he knows his disease and he knows how much insulin to give himself.

i admitted him to the facility without a glucometer but the fact that he is homeless and is able to handle his disease while being on the streets.

was is it right or wrong to admit him? besides the policies and procedures spcheel

I don't really understand your question. You wonder if it was right to admit him to detox jsut because he is diabetic? Is he also an alcoholic? There is no way he understands his disease well enough to manage it without frequent blood sugar checks. Alcohol definitely interfers with his metabolism/diabetes as well. Sad story.
