DM2, Broken Metatarsal, Bone Healing, Still Edematous

Anyone see many foot fractures in diabetics? We have a patient
who, despite adequate bone healing, continues to have swelling
at the 10-week post-trauma point. We are getting concerned
that nerves and microvascular circulation might be compromised
and that referral to ?? should be made. We do not want amputation, of course.

Does this patient have Charcot's? A foot specialist may be needed for treatment, but as long as the BS is elevated healing cannot occur. I hope the MD has been aggressive about treating the BS - by adding or increasing insulin.
