Day of Surgery patients query about Diabetic patients


Hello

I was hoping i can get clarification. For the life of me I cant remember (as I havent been nursing for over a year) for a type 2 diabetic if they are required to have their Oral Hypoglycaemic tablet prior to operation.

Depends on the medication and the control the patient currently has. Also may depend on how long the patient will be NPO after surgery and how long under anesthesia, etc. Better to ask the MD.
