24 hour urine for a type II diabetic?

by linzz

Just wondering why a Dr. would order this test for a type II diabetic. Are they looking for kidney damage?

A 24 hour urine will show if microalbumin is present. Microalbumin is very small amounts of protein that hasn't been filtered by the kidney. Normally there is no protein present in the urine. Its presence can indicate very early kidney damage.

24 hour urine collection is the diagnostic test for patients who assumed to have been suffering for Diabetic nephropathy. It measures the presence of microalbumin in the urine for the whole day.
