decompression for long term G-Tube use

I have a question about how to decompress a frequently distended abdomen. A foley style catheter with med port is being used. MD ordered decompression PRN for distention. Looking for techniques to proceed. Client has had G-tube > 10 years.

Order a supply of Farrell Bags. They are a special type of GT feeding bag with an extension tubing and bag for air. It might work.

I second the thought on the Farrell bags. My son has had a gt for 9 years and constantly swallows air. Attaching one of these to him when he is seated or asleep really does the trick. You can empty them as needed.

At the facility that I worked at we used one time use enema bags. Just slip the tubing into the gtube and keep it on the bed. Open up the top when the bag is full to allow the air to escape then close the top again for the bag to fill up again, also allows you to return any fluids back to the stomach that might have escaped.
