at Vanderbilt I can tell you ours are 2:1 or 1:1. We also have a charge and a help all nurse that do not take patients. This is true for both day and night shift

Wow! Does your charge nurse ever take patients? Do you always have a nurse who is the helper?

The ratio is 3:1 in all of the Skyline CCUs except the trauma ICU where it is only 2:1. However, trauma unit nurses often get floated within the hospital depending on census :)

You're not housekeeping a skyline and I'm pretty sure you are not housekeeping at either. That just doesn't make any sense quite frankly.

Actually that never ended up happening. I think at some point it was planned but never actually became reality. To answer your question no the charge never takes patients in my ICU and the ratio is always 2:1 or 1:1. We always have a help-all however there are times when the help all is so swamped that they cant help transport to CT or MRI or whatever it is that you need.

^I would not want to work at a place with stupid upper management trying to give the nurses an extra job function. The fact it was proposed, agreed, announced to staff and then made its way on the local news is just ridiculous.
