Trauma Med/Surg Unit Interview

  1. 0 Hi,

I'm a RN that has been out of the hospital setting for the past 3 years. I did hold a position on a med/surg floor prior to leaving the hospital and working in a clinic until now. I recently was offered an interview on a trauma/ER med/surg unit. I was wondering if anyone had any experiences they can share about their interview for a unit like this. What should I do to prepare?

Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Erin

I work on a surgical unit but we are also the designated trauma floor at a level I hospital. I don't really have any advice on the interview (we didn't get trauma pts when I interviewed) but I wanted to say good luck! I would think you would get traditional questions though, it's still in the end a med-surg floor.

We usually get falls, MVAs, motorcycle accidents, and shootings/stabbings. They are an interesting group. Most of our traumas (except for the falls, they're usually elderly) are young without any PMH so them being in the hospital is a huge deal. They can go either way on being grateful/whiny. It's a fun population though and I actually love working on the floor I do because of them.

Thank you so much for your input. I got the job offer this week! It's working at a really great hospital and the hours are day shift. I couldn't be happier!

That's great that you got the offer. Since you are fresh from the interviewing process, can you share a little bit about how it went? Or tips on how best to prepare?
