NEW Grad Interviewing for MICU. HELP!

Specialties Critical

Published

Hi friends.

I am graduating nursing school (ADN) in less than 4 weeks, and I have already had my first job interview. I was called in for a second, in person, interview. During the first interview I was asked the standard questions "What are your greatest strengths", "Tell me about the time you went above and beyond your job"...etc. However, I am quite nervous about this second interview. It will not be with a panel (thank goodness), there will only be one hiring manager (I believe from the actual unit) and myself. Does anyone know what kinds of questions I should expect? None of my clinicals were in critical care, and my super long preceptorship is on a multispecialty med surg floor. So, I'm hoping she won't ask any critical care related stuff like vent settings etc. To be honest, I had never heard of SICU or MICU until recently. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It will likely be more of the same, just with a new interviewer. In my face to face interview with the two managers of my unit, they asked behavior-type questions about past experiences ("tell me about a time when..."), but they also asked me why I wanted to work in critical care and why I wanted to work at that specific facility. Just be relatable and professional, and don't shy away from showing your personality! Best wishes!

Thank you. I needed some reassurance from someone who has been there.

Congrats on the job! I too am in the same position as you, wanting to work in ICU with little to no ICU experience. What kinds of questions did they ask you so I can get some insight as to what to expect in future ICU interviews?
