Hey Guys,

I am a recent new grad, just got my license. I have applied to just about every hospital in Cali and have been rejected from them all multiple times. I am starting to lose hope of ever getting a job. It seems like all they will take is RN's with experience. Any advice as to what I can do? :bluecry1:

Hi Cali RN,

Don't get discouraged. Have you seen all of these postings?

J

:D Thanx for the post, I'm looking into them. I'm trying not to lose hope but sometimes it gets hard.

I'm in the same boat too.. I wish it were 5 years ago when I graduated so then for sure I can get a new grad position.. jfalkjflasjf this economy!!!! I graduated in June 2009, got my license in July, and just like you, have been applying at every place I can imagine. looks like to get into a hospital it would either be if you get into a new grad residency program, know someone in the higher ups.. Everywhere is hard, and I live in San Diego, and there are sooo many nursing schools down here its ridiculous. We just have to be patient and keep staying optimistic, things will change, it's just a cycle for now...... hang in there

I wish I had graduated two years eallier--hospital has to wine and

dine us to work for their hospital. Now how the situation changes.

I have decieded to pack up and move. People say you have to

wait for one more year to see thing turning around. (one more year!!!

Hi New Grad California,

There is definitely hope out there for you. My suggestion is to go to a teaching hospital. I started my first job at Children's Hospital they have excellent nurses that work there. Try the teaching hospitals because they are very open to new grads. Many Blessings on your Journey.

WOW you got your first job at CHO?!?!? That's like my dream job!!!! How were you able to get that job???? :cry:I've been applying to all available RNI positions, BUT always get an e-mail saying that its either been filled by an internal candidate or someone else. Does putting a employee reference down help at all?!?!? Gosh....this really sucks!!!

I walked in there and said I wanted to take a tour and ended up meeting one of the Nursing managers. I originally called but I said I am going down there and ended up getting a tour of the Cancer Unit and received some inside info. on what they had to offer. Filled out the application on site and had an interview immediately. I asked alot of quesions, I was just persistant. They have a internship program for new grads. I don't know if they still have it but it was an excellent program. It felt like we were in school again only you got paid for your training. The people are really nice there and they are always teaching and you are always learning. I would suggest take a tour to see where you want to work and find out the details of working there.

Hey MeMi111,

How recent was this???? Did you just go to the information booth and asked for a tour??? I'm planning on doing a visit to the Nurse Recruiter once I have all my documents for my "portfolio" ready, so that i can hand it to them. I'm also planning on going to the unit I applied real soon since on my app history it says i'm "being actively considered," but I read that before and next thing I know its filled with an internal candidate. Well, I hope this Bay Bridge gets fixed soon too!!!!

This was at Children's of L.A. if we are discussing the same hospital. Yes, I went to the booth and they called the Nurse Manager who was open to doing a tour and we went on a tour mainly on that Nurse managers floor and I ended up working next to that floor. our nurs. She told me and my friend that they do tours all the time. Just call and ask so you are more informed and you make a connection to the people you want to connect with for the area you want to work in. I wish you the best. Don't stop if this is were you want to work you can have whatever you want.

Thanks MeMi111 for the information. Like most new grad's in CA, I've submitted so many applications online but am not getting any response or other applicants met their needs. My lack of experience (never done an externship) weeds me out from most candidates. I've even gotten certified in ACLS, PALS on top of BLS to be more marketable.

I've decided to re-do my resume. Currently its very "New Grad RN" that focuses on my educational/clinical skills to compensate for the lack of "clinical work experience". I'd like to post it and get some feedback if possible??? Can I PM anyone?

Thanks!
