Is CCRN more Prestigious Than PCCN?

I am at a lack for creative or appropriate words at this late hour, so pardon the improper use of words for my question. But I am curious ...

I am aware that CCRN and PCCN are both certifications that are earned in their respective specialties and each requires a certain time at the appropriate bedside. Bluntly stated, are CCRN-certified nurses perceived in the industry as "better" or "more prestigious" than PCCN-certified nurses?

Based on my present skill level, I would like to become PCCN certified but I get this sense that I should not waste my time with it if I eventually want to do ICU or ED nursing. Also, I fear I would get "stuck" professionally in intermediate care if I do get PCCN certified.

Thoughts?

I think any certification is money well spent. The tests are vastly different. Of course critical care units prefer the CCRN but know that the test is heavy in PA line and heart pressures in what would you do situations.

But as far as one being more prestigious....I don't think so they are both impressive for the area of specialty.

Your PCCN will look good on a resume, it will help you get a heads up on the competition if you decide to move to ICU, and it will be a good foundation of learning to prepare for your CCRN. Comparing the two is difficult due to the different specialties. I do, however think th CCRN is looked upon as being more "prestigious". Just my opinion though.
