Advice on which job would be better?Register Today!
- by wannabenursevr Jun 29, '10I am a new nurse 1 year experience doing some cardiac and mostly IV therapy. I had three interviews and all are interested. I have had an NNICU interview, Med/Surg floor, and Rehab. I want to do ICU, but i don't know if as a new nurse it would be really overhelming? Would i learn more in Med/Surg?? Med/Surg is a day shift and i can finish my RN to BSN...the rest are nights....Just want to know what to expect and if anyone has any advice for me. My husband is putting pressure on me to pick the first one that calls, but i want to be sure...so any advice would be apprieciated. Thanks.

- Sep 24, '10 by hcox1975I went to an ICU as a new nurse and I wouldn't change a thing. My background was in a nursing home and we also had rehab. I was a LPN and all I did was pass meds. But I did learn how to deal with families and ethical issues. I would do the ICU first. You can always go to something else if you don't like it.
- Oct 7, '10 by Angel098I have been a RN for over 25 years and I have always been a hospital nurse (various ICU settings). I am now a recruiter helping nurses find the right job for them AND their family. Reading your posting really sounds like you have been working for a year but really didn't get a broad range of experience. I also believe from reading what you said, that you already know the answer. It sounds to me like you have thought this through already and have your plans well layed out. I say follow your instincts..get your BSN and do the dayshift opening. You will learn much, have time to go to school and your husband will be glad to have you at home at night. One caution to all nurses who start new: Do not specialize so much that you couldn't change your course of employment.
