Goto Asia. In some prisons inmates are required to sit quietly, and they are severely beated if they move or make a noise.

Liberals have neutered corrections and embraced offenders.

Thanks for your messages. I did spend 3 months in India many years ago. I should have checked out the prison jobs. I loved India.

Where I work, nurses could not get away with fllirting.

Also inmates will not get very far writing up nurses.

Try a Mexican prison. They segregate their TB infected inmates, feed them beans and rice delivered by ropes and pulleys, and don't medicate them.

Thanks jailDON. It sounds like you indeed work in a "real prison". What is your policy if you do see some foolish nurse flirting with an inmate?
How often do your inmates write up the nurses? Where I use to work an inmate wrote up a nurse because he didn't like her tone of voice. Although the nurse insisted she had done nothing wrong the DON made her apologize to the inmate. How often do your inmates write up the nurses? Mexican prisons sound very interesting. Wow! No meds! :hatparty:

First of all, I just haven't had the problem with nurses flirting with inmates. They are too busy sleeping with the officers!

Last incident was 2 years ago that a nurse was discussing her family and kids with a child molester everyday when he came to the clinic for his insulin. I finally had her transferred then she quit.

Inmates write up nurses but I rarely find in favor of the inmate. I never find a nurse guilty on subjective complaints such as the nurse was rude or the inmate didn't like the tone of voice. I use objective information such as MARs and notes in the medical record to determine if the treatment was appropriate. If one of my nurses is rude or inappropriate, I have to see it for myself and she is counseled without security and inmates knowing about it.

More Mexican info........many wear newspapers as shoes which are not provided. Pregnant women give birth in a large communal cell and the baby stays with her if she wants. If she was pregnant when the crime was committed, the baby is "guilty" too and can't be sent to family.

Yes jailDON Isn't that the truth about nurses and officers. I'm glad most nurses prefer the officers. I just wish the nurses would not ask me to "lie" for them when hubby calls. A nurse talking about her children with a known child molester? Good grief! What was she thinking? That's good that if you have to counsel a nurse you do it without security and the inmate present. That's interesting info about Mexico. Newspapers for shoes! I sure do feel sorry for the "baby". That's amazing that the baby is considered "guilty" too.

Yeah, some nurses act like they are a kid in a candy store. The few years I was available I didn't have anything to do with the officers. They talk too much. I"ve never been asked to cover for a nurse.

Maybe you would like to work in a jail instead of a prison?

Default Where at in Missouri????????
Hello!
I just got started in Correctional Nursing in Missouri and was wondering what facility you were at? Why did you leave? I was at Fulton State Hospital for years which of course is a Maximum Security Forensic Hospital but the patients are still inmates like in the prisons. The only difference is they copped a plea or are actually guilty by reason of insanity. But I loved that job. The politics got to be too much so I left. But now I am working the best job I have had in all my years as a nurse. I am in Department of Corrections but I am contracted through my company to provide Mental Health nursing to the female IM's. I love it! I am still learning how to do what I do and to help Medical nurses with what they have to do. My biggest thing right now is helping medical by discontinuing medications that the IM's are refusing to take. This helps bring down all the wasted medications and the extra people coming for med lines.

I evaluated them, documented what my assessmnet was and if it was bogus, sent them back to their cells with a medical services request slip which they are required to fill out and go through that process if it is not a real emergency. This was the safest environment I have ever worked in. I enjoyed the experience.
