Have any of you thought about applying to correctional nursing in Ontario Canada? (registered nurse) They are desperate for them in Edmonton, Alberta; Toronto, Ontario is opening up a couple of new super jails, and the one I work at we're looking for 5 nurses. It's provincial (Ontario Gov't), the pay starts at $1315-$1517/wk. It's union...and it's strong...so no BS like I have read above...40hrs a week continental shift. two days off, two off, three on, two off, three off, two on, then repeats again...every 15weeks, you get 10 paid days off, as well as three weeks holidays.
There is a strong mental health component to it as well. One of our largest provincial (like state) mental health institutions is right next door to us that has a large forensic unit and we work closely with them.
Just an idea...
Yours in nursing, Colleen
