Question about protocol meds

Are you allowed to give protocol meds to inmates and if so, could you tell me what some of them are?

We have protocols for a lot of things. Most of the medications are OTC meds (Tylenol, Benadryl, etc.). About the only prescription drug we give on protocol is Pen-VK for tooth abscesses (provided the inmate isn't allergic to penicillin).

Depends on who accredits your facility (if anyone). NCCHC does not want to see any prescription medications as standing orders on protocols unless it is for a life threatening situation.

OTCs are the only medications on our protocols. We try not to use anything that can abused - Sudafed, Benadryl, etc.
