Is All Contracted Management The Same?

Specialties Correctional

Specializes in Family practice.

I have been working in a women's detention facility since Dec 06 and when I came in there it was a total mess. I had never worked in corrections before, but it really wasn't hard to get use to. The problem was that the Administrator had no managerial skills, and definately had no B _ _ _ _. The corporation would not even let my overseeing physician have inputs on anything. Anyway - I found out that they hired a new practitioner for the east campus (that is where I was). I started putting two and two together and asked the right questions to the right people and found out that management was getting ready to terminate me without just cause. So before they could do it, I resigned and they were furious and wanted to know how I knew. From what I understand my surpervising MD really took some hard licks because of this. I just hope I did the right thing. I really liked my job, I worked well with the nurses, guards, and even the inmates. I have so much anger and frustration. Needless to say, no one from mgmt, or corporate has contacted me at all. I even looked in my personnel file and there were discrepancies what so ever and I have never been disciplined for anything, so I think that is why I am so angry and confused.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Sorry to vent on my first thread. Just needed other nurses view on the matter:balloons:

first of all, i just wanted to say that seeing "bartlett tn" on your location brought back some memories for me! (i used to live/work there for a few years)...........

in terms of your experience there, sometimes there is no rational explanation and to try to figure things out is just like beating a dead horse, just senseless........

some of these privatized companies are simply just horrible-they just have no idea how to "manage".........

i am sure it hurts, regardless, since you liked the job and were liked, but there are just some things you cant change, and one thing is that poor management. just thank god that you are an FNP and can work anywhere!

Specializes in DIALYSIS, ICU/CCU, ONCOLOGY, CORRECTIONS.

I am an employee of the state but our DOC has contract medical.

What I have noticed over 10 years and 32 different contract companies, is that the contract company doesn't really want site contract administers to have strong managerial skills or a strong medical background. They hire their managers based on how much profit they provide for the company nd do not want their site administrators to rock the boat. The system is driven by profit.

My guess is that you were providing a good quality of care, had ethics, and were costing the company money. that is why the company wanted to replace you and find a practioner who they could get to cut corners and maximize profits

I am sorry this happened to you.
