My husband and I had 5 kids between us when we got married. He had 2 boys and I had 1 boy and 2 girls. Ages 15 to 7 yrs. The kids were driving us crazy with all the complaints at dinner time and I was becoming a short order cook. Well my husband put an end to that real quick. He held a family meeting and advised the kids, "Mom is not a short order cook, if you want to get a job and buy and cook your own food and clean it up, you're welcome to do that. In the mean time the next time I hear 1 complaint about the food, everybody but me and Mom, will eat powdered milk and corn flakes for every meal, and no sugar". Well of course the kids laughed and thought he was just kidding. They ate it for three days until they could'nt take it any more and apologized. It has been a family joke ever since and the kids love to brag " My parents would never let me get away with that crap". While it was very unpleasant for them, it did not cause any harm. Our Commander won't do the "loaf", but we did find out that you only have to serve 2 meals.

Many, many years ago this was served in long term care-I remember my first job as a cna-we served bowls of "The Blend"-a little bit of every thing mixed in a blender....PU....However-I think that is very OK for a prison-it is supposed to be a punishment not a country club..I'm all for having them bust big rocks into lots and lots of little rocks,too....

The food loaf stuff is the most stupid corrections penalty i've ever heard of. We as nurses have a responsibility of ensuring that our patients are getting enough nutrients, and motivate our patients to eat it. Silently sitting by watching inmates get fed stuff not even a billygoat would eat is wrong, no matter how bad the inmate have behaved. If that crap were practised where I live (Europe), the prison staff that served that food loaf stuff would soon end up sharing a cell with the inmate he served it to.

We're not talking about patients, we're talking about the at-large prison population. They only become patients upon entering the infirmary. A corrections nurse has no responsibility to the well prisoner.

My Kids are happy they have moved out before this hair brain idea came along... j/k LOL
The weirdest I ever got with my kiddos was to dye the milk mashed potatoes etc.. green on St Patrick's Day...The Food Loaf sounds dreadful!! but also desirable to as a means of getting to the inmate something in return for less than desirable behavior

I love the idea of a food loaf. My husband is a CO and the stories he tells me about the inmates ~~~ CRAZY. They are so abusive to staff and their is really nothing that can be done about it. I will have to ask him about this.

We use it and call it "Nutraloaf". Kinda looks like hogshead cheese It is used as a management tool for inmates who refuse to eat regular meals appropriately. It can only be given for 48 hours and can not be given to inmates that are IDDM. Great deterant to "playing with your food".
