correction nurses pay scale??

Clearwater Florida county jail is paying RN's $31.93 per hour & LPN's $21.89 per hour. There is a 5%/10% shift diff for 2nd/3rd shift

I"m a new grad, I talked to both the director and recruiting where i work, SVSP said i would start at the max rate.
Depends on the prison, not all california prisons will get paid what SVSP, CTF and San QUintin get paid.
Just like any other job, not everyone gets paid the same for the same job.
As much as it may hurt to hear, or **** people off, its the truth.
I could get hired at a hospital and get paid one thing, another person with more experience get paid less.
just like i will pay less for my new car than certain people.
why, because there is a range that can be negotiated.
someone can tell me how much a 2007 mustang costs on the envoice, or what they paid, does not mean i will pay that, i will get it for less.
Not all prisons in california pay the same, and one can negotiate pay within the range.
Again, i work here at the prison, I see people get hired, and i know what they are making.
People are not shy about what they make, as i have seen pay stubbs.
And i know what i have been told i will get paid, i will get the max.
across the street at CTF, perhaps i would not.
At donovan, perhaps i would get $7500, I don't know because i do not work there any more, i only know what i will get paid at SVSP.
We had new grad LVNs get max pay as MTA's when we still had them, while i'm sure there were MTA's with 4 years at another prison saying its impossible, since they don't get paid max.
Everyone does not have the same hand, or play with the same deck.

the page linked shows the range as 7760-8990 a month.
even if they start me at 8000 a month, thats still 96 a year without OT, and i'm going to start more than that, how am i not accurate?
8000 is mid level range, nothing special, yet still 96 a year.
Is my math wrong?

at 8990 a month i will be making 107,000 a year, and if i don't get the max even though that is what all the bosses and other nurses tell me, i will get 8000 a month and make 96 a year.
the rate will depend on my ability to negotiate, and the fact that they cant recruit or retain people, and that they know me as a LVN.

the 3 prisons in the bay area will get more than the rest of the state.
and depending on how you negotiate, you will get more or less than 8000.

If i misled people in prisons outside of CTF, SVSP, or San Quintin, i'm sorry, i have no clue what you will get as i'm not the one negotiating for you, other than somewhere in the 7045-8154 a month range.
If you fail to negotiate or accept the lower part of the range, thats on you.
I can only say what i as a new grad will get at SVSP, and it will be alot more than 7000 a month.
Why would i accept the bottom of the range, when i can go to DMH as a MTA and make more than that, retire at 50 instead of 55, and get 3.0 instead of 2.5.

lvn,s in california make anywhere from 15.00-33.00/hr depending where you work and experience i make 27.00/hr at a juvenile hall

the prison pays straight LVN's very bad.
the pay range is 3300-4600 a month.
however if you become a MTA, which is a LVN or RN that is also a peace officer you get paid alot more, about 8k a month, that is close to what a non peace officer RN makes.
Some RN's would rather be MTA, due to sooner retirement, even though the MTA/RN pay is less.
California Corrections is phasing out the MTA, they are all gone at SVSP, but the DMH at SVSP at CMF still use them.

MTA is the best deal for a LVN paywise.
RN can go both ways.

the pay for the LVN may be increasing at the prisons.
As i predicted when the LVN's got hired, they are ****** about the pay, and have threatened to leave to DMH and become MTA's, or quit.
Course only the LVN's at SVSP, CTF and CMF, have the MTA option.
Other LVN's at other prisons would have to pack up and move to become an MTA.
The take home pay for the LVN's is really bad, they all have to work alot of OT just to make it.
I know a couple of them have put in MTA paperwork for DMH and may leave even if they give them a raise.

I am sorry but I don't have any information about it. I am wondering where to look and I thought that the best and correct answer I will get from you. Are there opportunities in prisons in CA for new grads? Is it dangerous for a girl? What do RNs mainly do there? Thanks a lot!

Hi everyone, in NY corrections nurses make just a tad less than the hospital per hour BUT health insurance for individual and family is a fraction on what the hosp. nurses have to pay, plus eye/dental is much less too. Both get shift differential and $5000/yr extra for working afternoons and $7000/yr extra for midnights. So overall correction nurses make out better with benefits than hosp. nurses. Also don't forget traveling time/expense.

in ca corrections the pay for a two year grad or more lvn is 4,777 and rn 8,400 it is also posted at cdcr but with the cali budget they just told us we will take 2 furlough days and 10 percent cut for a total of ninteen percent 2 days working fooooor freeeeeeeee, but we all agreed to do our part to help with the budget ,stings though

Where does the 19 percent come from? I thought it suppose to be about 10 percent reduction and you take 2 furlough days a month due to the 10 percent reduction.
