Corizon--Long hiring process?

Sorry to hear about your untimely possible position. I work for Corizon and can tell you that we try to get people in as soon as possible. Sometimes our background checks can take up to 8 weeks. I have lost some good nurses this way. I would call, let them know your feeling about this process. You maybe able to get into a nearby facility that sounds more stable.

The benefits are about the average of other medical facilities.

Ok, I'm a newly licensed RN with no experience. I have been applying locally and out of area for just about anything available. I have either been sent numerous denial letters or no response at all. I have been applying since I graduated (6 months ago) with no luck whatsoever. Also attended a local job fair to shake hands and give out my resume to anyone who would take it. About a month ago I sent out a fax to a local jail that posted an ad in the paper. Two days later I got a call for an interview and scheduled it for the following week. The interview went well, the staff there was really welcoming, I felt like all my answers were pretty strong. They took all my info for a backround check, I got a business card and left feeling pretty confident. I went straight home and started handwriting a thank you lettter and dropped it in the mailbox later that evening. As instructed I called a week later to follow up. I was intercepted from talking to the hiring nurse, but was thanked highly for the card and was told my backround check was not back yet. She promised she would leave a message. One more week passed, I called again. Again, intercepted from talking to the hiring nurse...was told my background check was back and to expect a call in a couple of days for a second interview after they got a chance to check my references. I have been in contact with the people I have listed as references, and they have not recieved any calls. At this point, I am starting to feel like I am being strung along. I just wondered if anyone has any insight as to how long Corizon usually takes to hire an RN into one of their facilities. Two of the nurses I spoke to told me that this was there very first RN job---so I know they hire new RNs. I guess I wonder at what point should I consider this an unsuccessful interview....and move on. Next week will be 3 weeks since my interview with them.
Oh and another thing...I was really taken aback during the interview by the fact that they only offer 2 weeks orientation. As a new RN, this sort of freaks me out a little bit. Anyone who might have experience with Corizon's orientation process...let me know what you thought about it. Also, how is pay and benefits for part time with this company? I followed eduquette of the first interview and didn't inquire about pay or benefits.

I,too, work for Corizon in Wyoming and part of the delay from the state. In addition to checking your background for Corizon, you also have to pass a state background check for security clearance. Some state agencies are not as efficiant as we would like them to be :madface: . You may actually get more information by contacting the site's Health Services Administrator (HSA) to get more information regarding the progress of your application.

Hope this helps, we always need more correctional nurses.

It could take up to 6 weeks to hear back from them. Like the above comment, it takes time to do the security clearance. It depends on the level of security as well. Beings you said it was your local jail, is that a minimum or maximum security jail? When I got my first corrections job, it was a county jail, but it was maximum security and the clearance took 6 weeks. Just be patient and keep calling to check on the status though. Good luck!

I now work for Corizon and must say not so happy with their training and orientation. I work where I did prior to Corizon's entry but haven't had any success with new PC ID and PC access, particularly where labs are concerned and I do a lotta labs. One of my colleagues has been entering labs for me but I am somewhat frustrated that I am not able to do it myself. Other than that it has been good. At least having a time clock means you will get off work on time! LOL. That was an issue before.

I really like Corizon! I'm a PRN by choice due to the fact I'm still in school. I had 6 days of training I learn new things everyday. I've been working for the company since Sept. Im still pretty new. The company varies depending on where you work. I hear mixed reviews. I hope you have a great management team like I do. Good luck!

I worked for Corizon. I may work for them again in the future, as long as its a different facility. It takes awhile to get hired, due to the background check for the facility and facility orientation. As far as orientation goes, good luck. I was not a new nurse (good thing) and the girl who was supposed to orient me, was fired and walked out of the facility on my very first day, they asked me if I could pass meds and work in the clinic. If I had been a new grad, I don't think I could have handled it. The biggest complaint I had in our facility was inexperienced RN's being put as Charge Nurse, and then constantly having to watch them and babysit their patients and tell them what to do all day long, all while I took care of my 185 clinic appointments and helped the Provider. I worked for them for 3 years (when it was Prison Health Services originally, before the merger. Loved the job, not too fond of the HSA (who would threaten nurses and scream at them without knowing what was going on, things like "do you like your job?" "do you want to work here tomorrow?"), not too fond of the inexperienced staff and the expectations that I would babysit them, but overall the company itself isn't bad to work for, I'm sure other facilities are very nice.

I worked for Corizon Health, I run away as fast as you can. If there is a complaint by the security, meaning the jail officers, Corizon will not support you, because the jail feel they Corizon is contracted into their (the jail) facility. They can make complaints against the nurse, and they win, due to their cameras all over the place. The officers are not medical, but what they say goes. Its their facility (jail) and the Chief or LT, which are in command of the officers has the last say usually. I was very disappointed in that aspect. If there is a complaint against a nurse, Corizon DO NOT, do their investigation of the complaint, what the jail officer say goes. Example, if the officers don't feel the nurse responded in a timely manner to what they call an emergency, (drunk inmates at booking) for medical intake. They call it a lack of standard of care, and Corizon do not stand by your and investigate. I quit!!! Can't work for a company that don't support its nurses. The jail officers are not MEDICAL.
