velourchunky1, i would like to ask you some questions regarding the interview process as i have an interview date coming up with a corrections institute. I'd appreciate your help.

I too have an interview in correctional/mental health nursing (Napa State Hospital) and would appreciate it if anyone could share information about the interview. I'm a new grad and really don't know what to expect. What types of questions, any advice, etc. I am a new poster and don't have PM access. Thanks for any help

Hi,tcoulter. I want to know how was your interview with Napa State hospital? What do they ask? and i heard they have physical ability test too, was it that hard? i m scared with the Physical test coz i dont exercise usually so i am really scared? Can you please tell me more about it..thank you

I haven't received my results yet so I don't know for sure but I think the interview went well. I'm prohibited from disclosing the actual questions I was asked because they're standard for everyone. I will say that it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought and I was pretty nervous. If you interview make sure you review psych and basic nursing knowledge. The physical is only if you're ready for hire and I think it's just to rule out major medical issues (not like boot camp or anything!) I'll let you know when I find out my results. Are you interviewing there?

no..i actually apply for salinas..do they ask you scenario based question? and do they ask you any meds? You dont have to give me specific..thank you

The QAP for Salinas should be the same. Yes, nearly all the questions are scenario based and you don't need to know specific meds just be detailed and thorough in your answers if possible. Mostly they want to know if you know the basics for working with the forensic psych population and how to handle common situations that may come up. They don't expect you to know specific protocols for working at their facility. Good luck, you'll do fine if you passed NCLEX! As you probably know the QAP is a qualifying exam which places you on a list of people eligible for hire. Depending on your "score" on the QAP you may be called back for a 2nd hiring interview which is more is apparently more in depth. Let me know how it goes.
