Any NORTH KERN or KERN NURSES HERE or CA CORRECTIONAL in general?

I just accepted a position at North Kern in Delano (Bakersfield area).

I just want to know how it is, and hows the mandatory overtime as of now?

I know someone working at another prison 15 hours everyday.

any info will be helpful.

While I've never worked in Kern County, I did live in Bakersfield for 2 years (2003 to 2005). While it is not the most glamorous or cosmopolitan area, I did enjoy living there for some strange reason. I would not live in Delano, even if someone paid me to do so.

I met an ER nurse several years ago who says that he used to work for the CA Dept. of Corrections as a prison RN, but quit due to all of the mandatory overtime. He claims that if he was working night shift, he would have to stay over to work day shift if the oncoming nurse called off or did not show up for work. However, keep in mind that the situation might have changed in the years since this man last worked as a prison nurse.

To the OP....I am writing mainly so that I will get replies to your question. I am interested in the amount of mandatory overtime in CA facilities, too. Although I am quite certain from all that I have read, that it is highly dependent upon the specific unit and the nursing management there.

I am an LVN at CTF and while the LVN's aren't getting hit hard with mandates right now, the RN's are.
