    Hi -- Is anyone wrapping up their first semester in the RN program at Gateway or another CT community college? I hope it went well for you all. Were you in class just twice a week for NUR 101? Is there a clinical component too? I'm just trying to get an idea of the schedule.

    I just started my second semester at NVCC. I took Nursing 101 (8 credits) the first semester. It met 2 days a week for lecture and 2 days a week in either lab (8am-2:30pm) or at our clinical site (7am-1:30pm). This semester i much the same but we must also take pharmacology (only 1 credit, which I'm taking online). Other classes must be taken in specific semesters if you haven't already completed them before starting the program (ie. microbiology, life-span development, sociology, etc), so it is wise to take them early and concentrate on nursing courses once accepted. It is a big time commitment, but well worth it! Hope this helped!

    I also applied to NVCC. for the fall 2009.
    What was your TEAS score when u got in?
    I hear its a good program! What is the minimum passing grade in NUR courses to
    promote.
    Any advice will be appreciated. Good luck in your second semster!

    I got in the 98th percentile on the TEAS. I had gone through the review book, which was very helpful. I also went on a physics tutor website, as I had never taken physics before, to learn the basics. Glad I did because I got all the physics questions right! As for nursing classes, you need a 75 average on the exams to move on. It is a great program!!! Good luck with your application process. Feel free to ask any other questions you may have

    Where have your clinicals been? Do NCC students pretty much go to Greenwich/Stamford Hospitals, or have you been in Westchester, too?

    Also, if anyone is a student at NVCC or Gateway, it'd be great to hear from you about your first semester, too!!

    Just curious, how accurate do you think those ratings are? I scored in the 98th percentile as well and so did a few other people that I spoke to. Just wondering.

    I don't know how accurate the ratings are. I know people who were in the 70th percentile all the way through the 98th. As for clinicals, NVCC sites vary slightly from semester to semester, but usually include Waterbury Hospital, St. Mary's (also in Waterbury), New Britain General, Midstate (Meriden), Torrington, Derby, and New Milford. You don't get to choose your clinical site, so you may end up being placed somewhere that is an hour drive. And yes, you have to be there by 7am . Your clinical site changes every semester so that you can experience hospitals of various sizes and technology. I was in New Britain last semester and will be in Midstate this semester.

    You must be a senior now at NVCC. I am a freshman in the program-just finished first semester at CCC, hrftfd, and i have the option to transfer to NVCC if i want. It was my first choice and most convenient for me location-wise. Do you think it would be a good idea to transfer? I don't think it'll be so diferent since its the same program-am just so confused.

    Hi jrinct,

    Clinical sites for NCC nursing students are Norwalk, Stamford, Greenwich hospitals. You don't get to choose. But for the 1st semester, they try to consider where you're residing so that commute won't be too tough. Good luck!

    First semester down! GWCC program like NVCC is two lecture days and two clinical days (which total 180 hours per semester). We started with 44, we ended with 38. Use the book for clarification of the power points.. especially when clinicals start. We did Yale and St Rays and now we just added Waterbury Hospital for next semester. Its hard but a lot of fun.
