Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

Congratulations saramisu (I knew you'd get in!) and everyone else who finally got their letters!!! I had a jazz concert I had to go to for my fine arts elective last night, so I don't know about you guys, but tonight I'm having a much needed celebratory beer while studying for Micro!

 See you in the fall Saramisu!!

"Hi -- I don't know anything about Three Rivers, but I'm starting Gateway's nursing program this fall, and we have lecture scheduled on Mon. and Thurs. from 4-6pm. On Tues. and Wed., we have lab for the first month or so, from 3-9:30 pm. Then we'll begin clinicals during that time period. Gateway is also offering a daytime clinical option from 7am to 1:30pm, but anytime we're scheduled for lab (apparently, even after clinicals start, we do have labs scheduled), students in the day clinicals will have to go to lab with the rest of us in the evening."

Just Info for GCC goers. Congratulations to all who have been accepted.

Welcome to GWCC!! You are the last Fall/Spring class. After this year everyone (all 96 students) will start in the fall together. You are also the first class to do all four semesters in the brand new campus!! Lab is 3-10 and some clinicals are 4-11.

I have another question...where can I go to be tested vor vaccination? Where can I bring the form to? Just a regular doctor? Is there a cheap place somewhere? Thanks!

I plan on going to a walk in because I don't have a primary doctor at the moment. They do the titers for vaccines and the only vaccine they said they don't do is the meningitis one. Call a local walk in clinic and ask. They'll be able to tell you what they can do and how much it should cost.

Don't you need a physcial done now that you are admitted to the program? At St Vincent's once you recieved your acceptance letter you needed to get a complete physical done (at St V's expense at a satalite facility) along with a drug test. I'm thinking if you are going to need a physical, have that doc do a lab order for your titers.

CVS Minute Clinics do all the normal vaccinations including meningitis. Here is a link with what ones they offer and the prices (if you have insurance that participates with them, the cost should be much less. I know for a fact they take Aetna insurance). And if your school requires a physical but doesn't make you use a place they picked, the Minute Clinics also do college physials, etc.

Vaccinations

Wellness & physical exams

I would think the practictioner at the Minute Clinics could do a lab order for titer checks for you.

Hope this helps.

Sorry JFranklin...haven't been on! Yes I have taken micro already...I took micro in FL and had an amazing professor. It is a tough course, but given that you study and pay close attention to detail, you'll be fine!

Careful where you go for your titers cause if your insurance doesn't cover it, they are really expensive so find out before you go. I would get a flu shot cause even if you never had one

@CNAnursingstudent: thanks for the info! Do you know of a cheap place? My insurance won't cover it. I was thinking about CVS minute clinic, I'm gonna go there tmrw afternoon and find out. Please let me know if you find something :) or how much you paid

Nursewannabe- my moms a medical assistant so I was going to get everything done at her walk in clinic but it's very expensive there, like if I got it done there it would be 300$ worth. So if you are from wtby there's a place called quest next to nvcc so thats were I'm going to get the titers done and then I'm going to my primary doctor for the physical and the vaccines. If I have to pay for anything I'll let you know cause I'm not going until the 23rd so my insurance will cover everything.., I know it's so complicated and we have so much to cover but at least we have until July 15 to complete it.

Did you hand in your candidate reply form? I just mailed mine in today

@CNAnursingstudent: oh ok, I will try to go there on Wednesday morning, sure, you can let me know what you paid. you can always send me a private message too... what about this:

Immunization Testing

do you think we can use a service like that? or do we have to go to a doctor?

No, I haven't mailed mine in yet, i will hand it in personally on Wednesday morning. I don't trust the school anymore, I want to do everything personally :)

I haven't seen anything like that, You can prolly go to any doctor or try the Cvs walk in like you said, it just depends if your insurance covers it where ever you go or it's gonna be expensive.

Yeah I was gonna hand it in personally too, but her office was moved from last time I've been in there so I had no idea where it is.. unless I was looking hard enough. Lol but I mailed it and made an extra copy and I'm just gonna call her in a few days to make sure she got it. I don't blame you either cause the school drives me up the wall sometimes lol
